Rosacea, a skin condition, usually effects many women in their thirties, and in rare cases, some men. It usually happens to fair skin types. There are some conditions that have been thought to be a cause but the exact problem can be different from person to person. If you feel you have symptoms, Rosacea should be diagnosed by a dermatologist. Symptoms often include: redness, flushing, seeing blood vessels appear and certain bumps and pimples on the skin. It would also be common to feel burning and tightness in the skin from it becoming too dry. Sometimes your eyes can also be irritated.
After you have been diagnosed with Rosacea you would be given an oral and topical treatment. There are some additional options to help such as IPL (intense pulse light), LED lights (Revitalight) to calm and reduce redness, and a soothing facial treatment without stimulants such as pure oxygen.
There are different stages of Rosacea and the exact causes are unknown, but you should be aware of the ‘triggers’ that can make the symptoms worse. Keep a journal of things that you do and foods that you eat so you can help to determine what causes flare-ups for you. Some common triggers include:
The weather:
Items in the diet known to cause flare-ups:
Skin care products:
Stress, anxiety, physical exertion and medical conditions have also caused conditions to worsen.
These skin conditions can be very irritating and require patience. Take gentle care of your skin and try to keep calm. After you have been diagnosed by a dermatologist, you can keep this information in mind to keep your skin looking its best.
